When the Gibson Les Paul Standard was first designed for Les Paul way back in the '50s, he wanted it to look amazing.
The Flame tops, sunbursts, binding, & inlays are all features that make the Les Paul Standard what it is. However, they don't really affect the tone or playability of the guitar, they just make it look nice & they cost quite a lot of money!! The Les Paul Studio was created for the player who wants a real USA made Les Paul, but needs to buy one on a budget.
You get the proper Gibson 490R & 498T humbuckers & there really isn't anything about a Les Paul Studio that we can criticise. Its a great, honest, working Les Paul - yes it looks a little plain, but who's complaining - look at the price!
